# Seville: free at the metro, and two hours is the ceiling
The heat is a schedule, not a complaint
Seville smells of orange blossom in March and hot stone from June onward, and organises its day around the second fact rather than fighting it. Shutters close at two and the streets empty as if something had been announced. At nine the same streets fill with entire families, grandmothers included, and stay full until one.
€38 for a folding chair, and a bus that cannot reach the good streets
Tablao Flamenco Los Gallos is the tablao every hotel desk pushes: €38 an adult, €20 a child, 75 minutes, one drink. The dancing is real and the performers professional. The arithmetic is what I object to — €30 an hour a head, a family of four at €116 before dinner. Those four could do the Alcázar, the cathedral, the Setas and the bullring for less.
The hop-on-hop-off bus I cannot price: the operator quotes it in dollars, not euros. Check before paying. The fare is not the argument: the old centre is small and mostly pedestrian, the Setas to the Torre del Oro is a twenty-five-minute walk, and the bus cannot enter the streets you came for.
El Jueves, and be gone by eleven
Every Thursday, 08:00 to 15:00, free: El Jueves takes over Calle Feria in the Macarena, north of the Setas. Trestle tables of old tiles, brass, tools, books, records and a lot of ordinary junk, run by and for the people who live on that street.
Go before eleven: by noon in summer the street is in full sun and the better stalls are packing. Cash, small notes. What I carry home is the loose hand-painted azulejos, a few euros each. The covered Mercado de la Calle Feria on the same street has bars where a beer and fried fish at eleven in the morning is normal Thursday behaviour. Do not drive to any of it — leave the car at Cartuja and walk over the Puente de la Barqueta.
In August the meters clock off at two
Seville's blue zone normally runs Monday to Friday 09:00–14:00 and 17:00–20:00, plus Saturday morning. In July and August the afternoon shift and Saturdays are dropped entirely — enforcement is Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 14:00, and nothing else.
So a space found at two in the afternoon in August is free until nine the next morning, and a car left from Friday lunchtime costs nothing until Monday. Visitors get this wrong both ways: some pay for an afternoon they did not owe, others assume four o'clock means free forever and collect a ticket at half past nine. Every parquímetro prints its own timetable — read the summer line.

Cartuja has been in force since 1 July 2024. The Casco Antiguo and Triana zones are set by ordinance, but the automatic access control is still waiting on a separate city resolution and no start date has been published.
On-street parking is run by AUSSA through the Apparkya app, in two colours. Blue is the central streets: €0.45 buys 35 minutes, €1.70 buys the maximum two hours. You cannot buy more: a hard ceiling, not a meter you keep feeding. Green rings the centre: €0.65 an hour, up to €2.00 for three. Hours are Monday–Friday 09:00–14:00 and 17:00–20:00, Saturday 10:00–14:00, free every Sunday and public holiday, plus the August rule above.
Overstay and it is €4.60 to make it go away. The warden leaves a boletín de denuncia; if exceeding your paid time was the only fault, take it to any parquímetro and enter the cancellation code, or use Anulación de denuncia in the app. It prints its own deadline. With no ticket at all, this does not rescue you.
Now measure your car. Mercado del Arenal and Saba Plaza Concordia are 1.90 m, Saba Plaza de Armas 2.00 m, Mercado de Triana 2.10 m. Parking Cano y Cueto at 2.30 m is my pick in a tall hire car, and it publishes prices: €2.20 an hour, €29.95 for 24. Towed in Seville: Ring 092 before you believe any address
The Policía Local orders the removal; the trucks and the pound are run by a contractor. Ring 092 first, not the pound: the police hold the record of which cars were lifted and where they went. And before you panic — in this city a car really does get moved a few streets for a procession.
Now the honest part. Seville runs a municipal Depósito Municipal de Vehículos, but its address is not published on any city page I could open, and the city has used more than one yard. The charges sit in a fiscal ordinance I could not retrieve. I will not print a figure I cannot stand behind — ring 092 for both.
Bring the vehicle papers, your licence and photo ID. In a hire car you normally need the rental agreement and to be the named driver; ring the rental company too, because many do the release themselves and bill you later.

The amounts are set by the city's fiscal ordinance on the tow service, which lives on a domain we could not open, and the contractor's tariff page renders only in a browser. Rather than print a number that might be wrong, we are leaving it blank — ask for the figure when you ring. Expect a removal fee plus a charge per day of storage.

- Not published for Seville specifically, so treat this as the normal Spanish list rather than a confirmed one: the vehicle papers (permiso de circulación and the ficha técnica), a valid driving licence, and photo ID. In a hire car you will usually need the rental agreement and to be the named driver; ring the rental company too, because many of them handle the release themselves and bill you afterwards, often with a fee on top.
EV charging in Seville: One garage will tell you the price. The rest won't.
Parking Cano y Cueto has four bays at €0.40/kWh, €0.36 in the operator's app — five minutes from the Alcázar, and the only central garage that states a price before you plug in. Parking Mercado del Arenal has two bays and publishes nothing. Parking APK2 Arjona lets you start a charge without registering first, which matters in a country whose apps want a local tax number.
Ultra-rapid charging is outside the city: Zunder Alcalá de Guadaíra, 360 kW off the A-92, and Zunder Los Palacios, 340 kW beside the AP-4 south.
Where to charge
- Parking Cano y Cueto (Interparking) — Calle Cano y Cueto, 41004 Sevilla. Four bays in a 24/7 garage on the eastern edge of Santa Cruz, five minutes' walk from the Alcázar. €0.40/kWh, or €0.36 in the P-app. The only central garage that will tell you the price before you plug in.
- Parking Mercado del Arenal (AUSSA) — Calle Genil, 41001 Sevilla. Two bays in the municipal operator's 24-hour car park, two streets behind the bullring. AUSSA publishes no per-kWh price, so you find out at the barrier.
- Parking APK2 Arjona (APKElectric) — Calle Arjona, 41001 Sevilla. Charging inside a 24/365 car park on the river by the Cachorro bridge. You can start a charge without registering an account first, which matters more than it sounds when you are a foreign driver at ten at night.
- Zunder Alcalá de Guadaíra — Obramat car park, Alcalá de Guadaíra, off the A-92. The nearest genuine ultra-rapid site: four CCS up to 360 kW, two CCS up to 200 kW and two Type 2 at 22 kW. Off the A-92 from the SE-40 — a detour from the centre, but the one to use if you need a real charge rather than a top-up.
- Zunder Los Palacios y Villafranca — Beside the AP-4, Los Palacios y Villafranca, Sevilla. Six CCS connectors up to 340 kW on the motorway south towards Jerez and Cádiz. Exit 23 southbound, exit 24 northbound. Charge here on the way in or out rather than making a special trip.
Free parking in Seville: Three car parks that cost nothing, all on Line 1
This is the best deal on this whole site. Blas Infante and Condequinto are free and open 24 hours on Metro Line 1; San Juan Bajo is free too but closes at night.
All three are listed sin vigilancia — unattended. Take everything out, including the bag in the footwell.
Then there is Monasterio de la Cartuja on the island: free, 24 hours, no ticket needed at all — walk over the Puente de la Barqueta and you are in the north of the old town. That is my default. A metro single is €1.35, an all-day ticket €4.50.
Free or nearly-free spots
Blas Infante — free, 24 hours, Metro Line 1
An open car park on the Campo de la Feria, right beside Blas Infante station on Line 1. The city tourist board's own car-park directory lists it as free and expressly unattended (sin vigilancia) — so leave nothing visible in the car.
Condequinto — free, 24 hours, southern end of Line 1
At Condequinto station in Dos Hermanas, free and open round the clock in the official directory, also unattended. This is the one to aim for if you are arriving from the south and would rather not drive into the city at all.
San Juan Bajo — free, but it closes at night
At San Juan Bajo station on Line 1, west of the river. Free in the official directory, and unlike the other two it has stated hours rather than being open all night — so it is a day car park, not an overnight one.
Monasterio de la Cartuja — free, and you can walk in from here
On the Camino de los Descubrimientos on the Isla de la Cartuja, free and open 24 hours per the official directory, unattended. What makes it different from the metro sites is that you do not need a ticket at all: walk over the Puente de la Barqueta and you are in the north of the old town.
The kerb, in August, after two o'clock
In July and August the blue zone stops charging at 14:00 and does not charge on Saturdays at all. A space found at two in the afternoon in August is free until nine the next morning. Read the timetable printed on the parquímetro on that block to confirm it.
Hotels with free parking
- Hotel Alfonso XIII — Calle San Fernando 2, beside the Alcázar Map. Not included in the room rate: the hotel's own page gives €3.00 an hour, €33.00 a day or €231.00 a week for self-parking, valet also €33.00 a day, with EV charging billed separately at €0.30/kWh normal or €0.40 fast
- Old-town hotels generally — Casco Antiguo. Most small hotels inside the old town have no car park of their own and will point you at a public garage. Ask before you book — and ask specifically how you are meant to reach the door, because several of those streets are restricted
⚠ The small print on 'free' parking
- Height limits will catch a hire SUV. Seville's central car parks were dug under old buildings: Mercado del Arenal and Saba Plaza Concordia are 1.90 m, Saba Plaza de Armas 2.00 m. Measure the car, including anything on the roof, before you commit to a ramp.
- There is a tram running down the middle of the tourist route. The Metrocentro runs along Avenida de la Constitución and San Fernando, past the cathedral to Plaza Nueva, on a shared surface with no kerb to warn you.
- Bus and taxi lanes are camera-enforced. Under the national penalty scale this is a grave infraction at €200, halved to €100 if you pay within twenty days — and in a hire car the letter reaches you months later with an admin fee attached.
- Semana Santa and the Feria de Abril shut the centre on a scale that is hard to picture in advance. During Holy Week the processions occupy the streets between the parish churches and the cathedral for hours at a time, and crossing the route on foot is sometimes impossible, let alone by car.
